Local MP Mary Macleod has announced that she will be hosting a Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair in March to help get young people into work. The Jobs Fair, which will take place at West Thames College on 30th March, will give the opportunity for young people to meet with local employers as well as acquiring vital skills. Mary commented, "We have been working closely with JobsCentrePlus and local employers such as BAA to create a range of activities and workshops that will genuinely help young people looking for work. There will be seminars on CV writing, interviewing, skills, apprenticeships and starting your own business, as well as lots of opportunities to meet with potential employers.

Mary added, "Unemployment is one of the biggest issues of concern for local residents and it is vital that we do everything that we can to support local businesses and create jobs. The rate of unemployment locally is much lower than the London average; however we still have youth unemployment. We are really fortunate to have some amazing businesses in the area and I hope that this event forms a vital stepping stone to employment for many local young people."

The announcement comes as the Office of National Statistics release figures showing that Brentford and Isleworth has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in London. Mary commented, "It would be wrong to suggest that unemployment is not a problem locally, but these figures show that we are going in the right direction. Unemployment has a devastating impact on people of all ages however it is important that everything is done to make sure that young people are put on the right path as early as possible.
